In many first world countries ergonomics is being applied in schools and homes to optimise the learner’s environment. This said, the concept of standing desks is still a fairly new one in education. Although it may seem strange to those of us who were expected to sit up straight at school and not move, research around the world has shown that standing desks are positive for the teachers in terms of classroom management and student engagement, as well as positive for the children for their health, cognitive functioning and academic achievement.
